What’s a glimmer?

A glimmer is a sparkle, a shimmer, a light.

“Glimmers are tiny moments of goodness that help us remember that regulation, safety and connection is also possible. It doesn't take away the trauma or the suffering but it's a reminder that our biology, our nervous system, is capable of holding all that suffering that's not yet resolved.”—Deb Dana

Certain life experiences can negatively impact our perceptions of ourselves, others, and the world around us. These experiences can cause us to become stuck in unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving. At Growing Glimmers, the goal is to help those I work with recognize and break the cycles that keep them stuck and struggling. I support clients in reconnecting with the light within and around them & hope this creates a ripple effect of glimmers for future generations to come.

My Approach

Humans are social beings that require connection in order to survive and thrive. I believe that many of our present day difficulties are created when we have unmet needs (i.e. be seen, protected, heard, supported, loved in the ways we desire). The most effective solution to this can be meeting the need(s) in a safe, supportive relationship.

Regarding safety: My top priority in the therapy room is to ensure that my clients feel as safe and comfortable as possible. Through the lenses of treating the nervous system (polyvagal theory) and interpersonal neurobiology, we will work together to establish a greater sense of safety within your own body and in our relationship. When we do so, greater healing can occur.

Regarding the relationship: As an attachment focused therapist, I am guided by knowing that healing can happen in the context of many types of relationships: the therapeutic relationship, the relationship between a parent and child, or the relationship we, as adults, have with our younger parts (also known as inner child healing). These relationships become the catalysts and containers for healing and growth and can help one reconnect to the best version of themselves.

I am certified in the following: Integrative Attachment Protocol for Children from The Cord (formerly known as Attachment Trauma Center Institute); the adult version of this protocol (Strengthening the Authentic Adult Self); and as a Parent-Child Specialist through world renowned EMDR child therapist, Ana Gomez’s Institute. I am also an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant, providing consultation to EMDR trained therapists.

My approach is a blend of all my personal and professional knowledge with the warmth, authenticity, quirk, humor, and the playful silliness that makes me me while affirming what makes you you.
